Teun Aalbers
Co-founder and former business developer of applied games studio GainPlay Studio.
About Teun
Teun worked as co-founder and business developer at GainPlay Studio for ten years. In this period the company grew from two to five people. GainPlay has published numerous games in healthcare, education and sustainability amongst other MindLight and Daydream, when they started out and NursIn VR and Vedea in the last year.
For every project GainPlay partnered with one or more external experts or institutions to ensure a launching customer or partner for the project. These ranged from universities, hogescholen, hospitals, revalidation clinics, and mental health care institutions and everything in between.
During his time at GainPlay Studio he co-founded two other startups; Digest Inn, helping overweight people lose weight and having a better exercise routine coupled to professional care by a dietitian, and Vedea Healthware, a new VR-based medical device for the treatment of children with laze eye, and a foundation focusing on using game technology to improve peoples chances of making it to their retirement in a healthy way.
Teun Aalbers has, as he puts it, dealt with every grant, investment fund or funding opportunity under the sun aimed at getting applied games into healthcare and education. He has knowledge on how to bring an applied game to market as a class IIa medical device. And he has faced basically every challenge a small scale game studio can come across while trying to contribute to a better society.
GainPlay Studio stopped activities in May’24 and was liquidated November ’24. Teun doesn’t currently hold a position in the games industry.
