7+ years experience at Guerrilla games, Indie game developer and entrepreneur
About Dirk
Dirk is entrepeneur, indie developer and ex-AAA game developer.
He launched his career at Guerrilla Games, working as a Senior VFX Artist, Tech Artist, and Tools Developer. His journey on the Killzone series began with Killzone: Liberation and continued through Killzone 2, Killzone 3, and Killzone: Shadow Fall.
For various games in the Killzone franchise he created key specials effects, like large cinematic explosions, bullet impacts and of course exploding heads.
During downtime he worked on optimization of the tools and workflow of (tech)artists. This resulted in various tools for Asset Management / Maya plugins and an infamous internal file browser called Harry.
Dirk quit Guerrilla Games in 2011 to start his business POULES.COM – a social platform for sports prediction games. Friends compete by predicting match results, scoring points, and battling for bragging rights! POULES.COM has more then 370.000 registered users and tens of millions of pageviews per year. Various B2B clients are companies like Ajax, Ajax Life, KPN, ADO Den Haag and DPG Media.
In 2019 Dirk co-founded BUNNI.NL – bookkeeping software for entrepreneurs who don’t know how to do bookkeeping. A fun and lighthearted take on bookkeeping. BUNNI has at the moment more then 2300 monthly paying users.
Since 2024 he is working in his evening hours on RANGER COMMANDO: a nostalgic ’80s-inspired isometric tactical shooter. Explore randomly generated missions, assassinate officers, free hostages and blow stuff up.
